Chairman’s Report for Ying Wa College Old Boys’ Association Annual General Meeting

Dear Fellow Old Boys,
It is my pleasure to present this year’s Chairman’s Report, reflecting another vibrant and meaningful year for the Ying Wa College Old Boys’ Association. Our activities have continued to strengthen bonds across generations, support our alma mater, and celebrate the spirit of Ying Wa.
1. Membership Growth
We’re proud to report a steady rise in membership, especially among recent graduates. We warmly welcomed 85 new members from the classes of 1968 to 2024. Our expanded event calendar and digital outreach have helped attract new faces and re-engage long-standing members.

Our alumni in the tech sector returned to share their journeys, offering students practical advice on navigating careers in software, cybersecurity, and AI. The session sparked lively Q&A and mentorship connections.

- Legal Chapter Networking Drinks
Held in Central, this event aimed to blend social networking with continuing professional development. Legal professionals exchanged insights on recent case law and regulatory changes, while reconnecting over drinks.

3. Recreation

- China Trip
During mid December 2024, a cross-generational journey to Guangdong Province included visits to historical sites and cultural exchanges. The trip deepened our appreciation of local Chinese delicacy and heritage.

- Networking Night at Happy Valley Racecourse
More than 50 old boys gathered for an evening of refreshments, and reconnection at Wednesday night racing at Happy Valley. The event fostered new friendships and business links across graduating classes.

- Excursion to Fire Services Training School
On a Jan 18, Saturday Morning, a group of old boys and their families visited Fire and Ambulance Services Academy at Tseung Kwan O, learned about Fire Services Department professional firefighting and emergency response protocols. The visit offered a rare glimpse into the discipline and bravery of Hong Kong’s fire services. Participant also learnt Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to response to emergency situations.

4. Arts & Heritage

- Film Screenings:《久別重逢》and《看我今天怎麽說》
These alumni-produced films explored themes of reunion and self-expression. Screenings were followed by director Q&As, sparking meaningful dialogue on identity and storytelling.

- Oral History Programme
We continued interviewing retired teachers, Principals, Board of Directors, and senior old boys, preserving their memories of school life and post-graduation journeys. These stories will be archived for future generations. We have completed 65 interviews so far and aim to complete the target of 100 by mid next year.

Earlier this year, the Association was honored to support the 「香港字」 Exhibition, a unique showcase celebrating the foundation Ying Wa College laid in contributing to Hong Kong’s printing industry and its cultural impact. The exhibition, organized in collaboration with local heritage researchers, highlighted the artistry and historical significance of our school’s distinctive characters, reinforcing the deep connection to tradition and the enduring Ying Wa spirit.

5. Sports Activities

- YWPS Swimming Pool Access during Summer Recess
We arranged access for old boys and their families to enjoy the school pool during the summer recess. It was a refreshing way to stay active during the holidays.

- Support for Athletic Meets & Swimming Galas
The Association ExCo members were invited to be Guest of Honour at YWC and YWPS annual sport events. Our presence boosted morale and celebrated student athleticism.

– Sunday Football League: Competitive yet collegial, our league continues to grow, with teams representing different age groups.
– Tuesday Badminton: A consistent favorite, drawing players from all skill levels for friendly matches and fitness.
– NEW: Friday Evening Basketball & Volleyball: Introduced this year to diversify our offerings, these sessions have quickly gained traction among old boys.

- New Hoodie Launch
Featuring a sleek design and premium fabric, our new hoodie launched in August 2025 was a hit among old boys, students and families. It is more than an apparel—it’s a wearable symbol of Ying Wa pride.

- Lai See Envelope Distribution
Designed by one of YWC student, the Lai See envelopes were distributed to YWC and YWPS students, families and staff during Chinese New Year, symbolizing blessings and tradition. The initiative was warmly received and added festive cheer to campus life.

7. School Support & Admissions

- Support YWC Career Day
Over 120 old boys mentor and mentee enrolled in the Career Day programme, old boys from diverse industries—from finance to creative arts—participated in panel discussions and one-on-one career coaching, helping students explore future pathways with confidence.

- Assisting in School Admissions
As we continue to support our alma mater, we are committed to enhancing the school admissions process for our old boys while promoting the values of Ying Wa. Despite the keen competitions of the admissions process, approximately one-third of applications from old boys were successfully admitted to P1 of YWPS and S1 of YWC last year.

As we look ahead, we are excited to propose several new initiatives on top of the current ones to further enhance our members’ experiences:

We will explore opportunities to enhance the Association’s financial sustainability and encourage each activity to aim for a minimum 10% surplus.
